Heavy rains predicted, orange alert in four districts, likely to experience Kallakadal phenomenon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heavy rains in the state Friday also. Following heavy rains, orange alert has been announced in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Idukki are on yellow alert.


A holiday has been declared today for educational institution in five districts as rain continues. A partial holiday has also been declared in Malappuram and Idukki. Director of Public Education has informed that schools including higher secondary and vocational higher secondary in Kozhikode will also remain closed today. The holiday will not affect pre-scheduled exams and PSC exams.


A holiday has been given to all educational institutions in Kannur, Wayanad and Palakkad and educational institutions except colleges in Kasaragod. The holiday is not applicable to Model Residential and Navodaya Schools.


Meantime, there is a warning of high waves and rough seas along the Kerala coast. It is also suggested that people on the beaches of Kannur and Kasaragod should be more careful. Ban on fishing continues. There is a possibility of Kallakadal phenomenon.
