ALAPPUZHA: After winning his 8th election, Kodikkunnil Suresh has become the leader with highest number of wins to Lok Sabha. A former Union Minister, Suresh surpassed the records of GM Banatwala who represented Ponnani seven times and KP Unnikrishnan who won six times from Vadakara.

Mavelikkara got that status of Lok Sabha constituency in 2009 when Adoor, a permanent reserved constituency, was eliminated in the re-determination. Pathanamthitta replaced Adoor as the general seat. In 2009, Kodikunnil Suresh, who was the sitting MP from Adoor, first contested from Mavelikkara after it became a reserved constituency. Since then, he has continuously represented Mavelikara at the Lok Sabha.
