'NEET controversy affected sanctity of the examination,' says Supreme Court

neet

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has sent a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the central government over the NEET exam irregularities. The court pointed out that the controversy affected the sanctity of the examination. About 10 people came to the court with a petition alleging irregularities in the NEET examination. The petition will be considered again on the 8th of next month. A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah heard the petition. The court did not accept the request to stop the admission process.

On June 4, when the National Medical Entrance Examination (NEET) results were announced, 67 candidates got the first rank. This was controversial. Out of these, six of those who have got full marks are from Haryana and had their seat numbers in the same order. The petitioners demanded that the examination be canceled and a fresh NEET examination be conducted. The petitioners also alleged that there was a difference in awarding grace marks.

The students filed the petition on the 1st of this month stating that the question paper leak is being investigated by the police. More students approached the Supreme Court on the issue.

NTA says that 47 people who got the first rank were given grace marks. NTA has explained that the grace marks are due to the mistake in the answer in the NCERT textbook. But the petitioners also informed the court that many students had come forward against the answers in the provisional answer key released by the NTA.
