KANNUR: CPM Kannur district secretary and LDF candidate MV Jayarajan said that the reason for his defeat in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency by a huge margin was the intervention of social media. He slammed pro-left social media groups like 'Porali Shaji.' He said that many groups which seemed to be left wing were bought and the party suffered a disaster in the election as the youth only looked at social media. Jayarajan's defeat in the constituency was by 1,08,982 votes. KPCC president K Sudhakaran won here. Sudhakaran got a huge lead even in the booths which are termed as CPM strongholds. This shocked the CPM.

Jayarajan's words...

"The tragedy of social media addiction becoming widespread among our youth is against the Left in this election. Party workers and Left loyalists should understand one thing. Many of the groups we think of as left wing have been bought off on social media such as 'Porali Shaji', 'Chengotta', 'Chengathir'.. When we see these pro-Left posters on a daily basis, we depend on it. But the current trend is to buy off such groups. Admins of such groups are sometimes only one person. They are being bought. When they get the money, the post will not be the same as what the admin did earlier. Anti-Left and anti-CPM posts are coming. This is the challenge we face in the new era.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan said that the reason for the massive increase in the UDF's majority in the constituency was the CPM's votes. CPM votes flowed to UDF, including from party centres. He told a news channel that the Chief Minister should check the voting status in Dharmadam and Payyannur. MV Jayarajan may be acceptable to the party as party secretary. But there was a campaign even among the left activists since the nomination of the candidate that he was not acceptable to the people. The result shows that all this has been reflected in the vote.
