THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The search is still ongoing for the worker who went missing while cleaning the Amayizhanjan canal in the capital city. A team of around 100 firemen and divers are conducting the rescue operation which has now entered the 25th hour.

Joy, a construction worker, also took up gigs like cleaning works to make ends meet. Before leaving the house on Saturday morning, Joy informed his mother Mary that he would return by night. Joy also used to collect scrap and sell waste materials to get money. Joy had a habit of giving whatever he earned to his mother.

Mary's face darkened when she learned about her son's disappearance from television channels. But unlike others, she has not lost hope and still believes in her son’s return while clutching her hands amidst murmuring prayers.

Mary's husband Neshamani died ten years ago. Joy is single and is living in a house owned by his sister. Every day after work, Joy visited Marayamuttom junction to engage in idle talks with his friends. Joy's elder brother Koshy's wife Jaisy died only a week ago.

“Joy was the sole support of the family. Every day he goes to work at six in the morning and returns by five. He cannot sit idle and will constantly engage in some work. On days when no work came his way, he would collect scrap and sell it. He always talked to people with a smile.” said Mary.
