Court orders Rs 40,000 compensation for Kollam resident after ATM fails to dispense Rs 10,000

KOLLAM: Court orders to pay compensation to Kollam resident who did not get money from ATM. The court ordered Kollam Women's Cell Asst. sub-inspector V Suprabha to pay compensation.

The incident complained of took place on April 12, 2019. The complainant had tried to withdraw Rs.20,000 from an ATM in Iravipuram. But received only Rs.10,000. Rs 20,000 was deducted from the bank account of the complainant. After the first complaint to the bank was rejected, a complaint was filed with the Thiruvananthapuram Banking Ombudsman. But that too was rejected. Then a complaint was lodged with the Kollam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. The commission investigated the complaint and ordered to pay Rs. 40,000.

The Kollam Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered the customer to pay Rs 10,000 not received from the ATM and Rs 40,000 including compensation and expenses. It was ordered to pay Rs 40,000 as compensation of Rs 25,000, costs of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 lost. Advocate C. Padmakumaran Nair appeared for the complainant.
