Quake in Thrissur and Palakkad again causing panic

THRISSUR: A mild earthquake in Thrissur and Palakkad for the second day in a row. The tremor struck Sunday morning at 3.56 am. Tremors were felt in Kunnamkulam, Erumapetty, Vellore, Vadakancherry, Thrithala and Thirumittacode regions. The earthquake was felt in these areas yesterday morning also. Local residents said that it lasted only for a few seconds. Residents of the area are in fear as they felt it again.

A mild earthquake was felt in various places in Thrissur and Palakkad Saturday morning around 8.15 am. No casualties or damages were reported. A mild earthquake of 3.0 was recorded on the Richter scale. The earthquake hit Thrissur Chowvannur at 8.16 am. Kunnamkulam, Guruvayur, Erumapetty and Pazhanji lasted four seconds.


The wall and floor of Tommy's house in Thrissur Koonammoochi Anthikad suffered minor cracks. The crack was noticed in the work area. Hearing the noise, the family ran out of the house. The locals said household utensils, beds and other things were seen trembling in Erumapetty area.


Rumbles were felt from underground in places like Thirumittacode, Nagalassery, Chalissery, Kakkattiri, Kottoppadam, Mathupulli, Kothachira, Ezhumangad and Kumaranellur in Palakkad Thrithala constituency. The windows of the houses were shaken. G S Pradeep hazard risk analyst at the Disaster Management Authority, said that this is a seismic movement on the earth and there is no need to be afraid.
