KOCHI: Monday, June 17, 2024, marked the completion of seven years of Kochi Metro Rail Service. The daily count of individuals utilizing the Kochi Metro service is rising. The number of people using the Kochi Metro every day is getting close to one lakh now. A new survey claims that over 90,000 people use Kochi Metro daily.

With the number of daily users of the Metro service growing every day, KMRL officials anticipate that this number will soon approach one lakh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kochi Metro on June 17, 2017. There are 25 stations throughout Kochi Metro's 28.4 km of service.

KMRL is now preparing to award the construction contract for the second phase of the metro line from Kaloor Stadium to Infopark. Afcons Infrastructure Limited has quoted the lowest amount. If the construction contract is handed over, the construction will start in July itself.

Procedures for a loan from the Beijing-based Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank have also been completed. Once the construction starts, the 11.2 km pink line is targeted to be completed within 18 months. Of the 11 stations on the Pink Path, 10 are to be constructed, except the one near the Kaloor stadium.

Land acquisition for the stations has been completed. The construction cost of the second phase of the metro is expected to be Rs 1957.05 crore.
