HARIPAD: Despite the health minister ordering an inquiry into a complaint filed by a housewife alleging that the doctor of a taluk hospital demanded bribe, no significant action has been taken. The DMO had said the other day that an investigation had been started on the directive of the minister. However, S Beena, the complainant, says that he only called on the phone on Sunday morning to enquire about the matter but did not meet her in person. The DMO did not speak about Beena's husband Animon's follow-up treatment. However, they say that the vigilance department of the police came to the house and collected the information. After Beena's complaint came out, many people have come forward alleging that the doctor demanded money in the same manner.

Animon was admitted to Haripad Taluk Hospital on 17th due to a leg infection. Beena complains that she paid 2000 rupees to Superintendent Dr. Sunil for Animon's checkup after the surgery, but he asked for 5000 rupees. In the complaint sent to the minister, it is stated that Animon was discharged without further care and that the security staff manhandled her when they inquired about it.
