THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Speaker did not allow the allegations levelled by Manu Thomas, a former member of the party's Kannur district committee, against CPM leader and Khadi Board vice-chairman P Jayarajan to be raised in the Assembly.

On behalf of the Chief Minister, Minister MB Rajesh requested that the adjournment motion notice should not be allowed under Rule 52(5) since it is only an allegation. Accepting this, the speaker rejected the notice given by Sunny Joseph. The opposition walked out accusing of not allowing anything that would put the government and the CPM on the defensive.

Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan said that the assembly had discussed similar issues before. "A shocking revelation has come up. Such gangs grow because the political leadership gives support to criminal activities. There are allegations ranging from gold smuggling to drug dealing," said Satheesan before the walkout. Later, Satheesan said in a press conference that it was proved that they were right in saying that the CPM is decaying.

Police protection for Manu

Police have secured Manu's house and businesses. This is as per the instructions of the District Police Chief. People including Shuhaib murder case accused Akash Tillankeri had sent threatening messages to Manu after he made allegations against P Jayarajan and his son. The police also received an intelligence report that there was a possibility of an attack. Manu said that he does not want police security. Manu has been invited to the Kannur DCC party.
