KOCHI: The annual general body meet of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has started at the Gokulam Convention Centre at Kaloor in Ernakulam. The election is held once in three years.
Mohanlal and Unni Mukundan were elected unopposed as AMMA President and Treasurer. The election for the post of general secretary, secretary, vice president and executive committee members are taking place at the general body meet.
Mohanlal is serving the president post for the third time in a row. It was reported that Kuku Parameswaran, Jayan Cherthala and Anoop Chandran submitted nomination papers for the post of president but withdrew it later by the intervention of their colleagues. Mohanlal expressed his desire to quit, but yielded to the love of his colleagues. There was no one against Unni Mukundan.
What makes this election notable is the fact that Edavela Babu is stepping down from the general secretary post after 25 years. He has been at the helm of the third governing body since the formation of AMMA in 1994. Kuku Parameswaran, Siddique and Unni Sivapal are contesting for the post of general secretary vacated by Edavela Babu. Jagadish, Jayan Cherthala and Manju Pillai are contesting for the post of vice president and Anoop Chandran and Baburaj are contesting for the secretary post.
Ananya, Ansiba Hasan, Joy Mathew, Kalabhavan Shajon, Ramesh Pisharody, Ronnie David, Sarayu Mohan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Suresh Krishna, Tiny Tom, Tovino Thomas and Vinu Mohan will contest for the executive committee. 12 including three women, will compete for the 11-member executive committee. Among the 17 members of the governing body, four are women.
