Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita; first case in Kerala registered; accused given notice and released

MALAPPURAM: Kerala's first case under the replacement for Indian Penal Code, which came into effect from today, has been registered. The case registered was for riding a two-wheeler without a helmet. Malappuram Kondotty Station was the first to register a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Kondotty Station SHO Deepakumar told an online media that the case was registered today morning. This is the first case in the state. A case has been registered against a man from Karnataka under crime number 936. The case is for carelessly driving a vehicle from Palakkad to Kozhikode without wearing a helmet. He was arrested at Kolathur. It is reported that after registering the case, the accused was given a notice and released.

The first case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in the country was reported in Delhi. A case has been registered at Kamala Market Police Station. The country's first case was registered against a street vendor for encroaching on the footpath under Section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was running his business at Delhi Railway Station. Ahead of the implementation of the new law from today, posters announcing the law were put up in the streets, police stations and places where people might gather.
