MALAPPURAM: The 14-year-old resident of Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, has been diagnosed with Nipah. The result from the Pune Virology Lab is positive. This is the fifth time Nipah infection has been confirmed in Kerala. The health department has instructed people to wear a mask. More health workers will come to Malappuram. The health minister also informed that a warning has been issued within a three-kilometer radius.

The health minister informed that the steps have been taken as per the protocol and precautionary measures were taken even before the result came out. The 14-year-old is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was transferred from a private hospital in Perinthalmanna to Kozhikode yesterday after he showed symptoms of Nipah Versus infection. It is suspected that the child contracted the disease from Mombin fruit eaten during a tour to Wayanad. There is no official confirmation of this. The health condition of the child undergoing treatment is critical. The child had health problems on the 15th. The child was treated in three hospitals in Malappuram. Those who were with the child are being monitored.
