Human Rights Commission registers case over unsafe granite wall endangering 18 families at Kowdiar Heights

j

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Human Rights Commission has registered a case on the complaint that the lives of 18 families are in danger because of the 40-year-old granite wall adjacent to the Kowdiar Heights apartment complex. Commission acting chairperson and judicial member K Baijunath demanded a report within two weeks.

The wall made by the housing board is at risk. The wall was built at a height of 40 feet to prevent erosion and reinforce the earth in the flat complex. If the wall collapses, around 18 flats in the CD block of Kowdiar Heights Apartments, adjacent to the wall, will collapse. The land ownership of the old flat complexes has not been transferred to the flat association. Then the residents approached the housing board but the board said that they are not ready to demolish the wall.

According to the complaint, the board did not take action despite the fact that the engineers who came to check the matter convinced the board about the dangerous condition of the wall. According to the complaint filed by Apartment Owners Association Secretary R S Radhika, heavy rains will further worsen the situation.
