Iran organ trade: Detailed probe is required, police tell HC

KOCHI: The police told the High Court that the racket transporting organ donors to Iran has international links and therefore extensive investigation is required. Nedumbassery Police Inspector TC Murugan's report called for action against all those involved in the case.

"Victims are misled by making them believing that organ donation is legally permissible. The accused took them to Iran and sold the organs and charged huge sums of money from the recipient. The donors were cheated by not paying the promised money," the police said in the bail application filed by the third accused, Sajith Shyam. A bench of Justice CS Dias then adjourned Sajith's bail plea to July 10.

"Sajith Shyam is the one who worked between the first accused Madhu Jayakumar and the agents and donors in the case. Sajith's relationship with Jayakumar is clear from checking the bank records and phone details. The first accused is yet to be arrested. Now, if the petitioner is granted bail, there is a risk of intimidation of the parties and destruction of evidence. Therefore, the bail should not be granted," police said in the report.

"Madhu and I are childhood friends. Madhu told me that he was running a medical tourism business in India and Iran. Money was sent to my account because it was not possible for some of Madhu's parties abroad to sent it directly," Sajith said in his bail plea.
