Stampede in Satsang of Sakar Vishwa Hari Baba; 87 people including women and children reported dead in Hathras

HATHRAS (UTTAR PRADESH): People who were returning after a religious ceremony died in a stampede. 87 people died including women and children. It is reported that three children died. The Satsang was held at the centre of a spiritual leader named Sakar Vishwa Hari Baba at Pulrai village in Sikandra Rao town of Hathras. Hundreds of people participated in the satsang. The event was privately organized. The tragedy happened when the crowd was returning from the program which was held in extreme heat. Bodies were brought to the nearby primary health centre in tempos and buses.

District Magistrate Ashish Kumar informed that according to the number of those brought to the primary health centre, around 60 people have died. Later it was confirmed that 27 people died. President Draupadi Murmu condoled the incident. The President expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge also expressed their condolences.

The Prime Minister said that the Center will provide the necessary help needed to the Uttar Pradesh government. The Prime Minister announced the statement during proceedings in the Parliament. One of the survivors responded that when people were returning after the event, it was very hot and everyone crowded through the small road to get out, which led to the tragedy. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh has been announced for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The police have registered a case against the organizers of the event. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Hathras tomorrow.
