KOZHIKODE: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said in the regional reporting that the government should focus on people's livelihood issues rather than development. The criticism is in the reporting conducted today for the leaders from the local secretary in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and Palakkad districts as part of the election review.

The second Pinarayi government came to power in the belief that the party was with the people but the party forgot that when it came to power. Development is essential in the state. However, the most important thing for the people are the problems of life. Pensions that has been suspended for six months, Supplyco without essential goods and a chaotic rationing system have all added to the depth of the defeat. Party systems from the branch committees upwards became inaccessible to the people. Reports from the grassroots is that there is a situation in Kerala where even a minister's PA cannot be approached. The party cannot move forward in Kerala unless this situation changes.

Party members from Chief Minister to Branch Secretaries should come down to the lower level. The Centre is hunting the communist government in Kerala financially and politically. However, the party cannot escape by saying that. The party should be able to stand with the people while exposing the central moves. Otherwise, people will distance themselves from the party, Yechury reminded.

Central committee report was presented by Yechury and state report by state secretary MV Govindan. Govindan said that the failures of the party in the state should be corrected and failure should be taken as self-criticism.

Corrections will happen: Yechury

Yechury told the media that the reasons behind the party's setback in the Lok Sabha elections will be studied. Mistakes will be corrected. The growth of BJP in Kerala cannot be underestimated. The vote leakage in the party, including at the lower levels, will be taken seriously. The setback should not be judged as a deficiency of state administration. Yechury also said that the EP Jayarajan-Prakash Javadekar meeting did not affect the election results.
