THODUPUZHA: Thodupuzha Municipal Corporation Chairman Sanish George has rejected CPM's proposal to resign from the post of chairman following the inclusion of an accused in a bribery case. He will appear before the vigilance for questioning next week. The chairman said that resigning is tantamount to confessing his guilt and clarified that he will prove his innocence by retaining his position.
The chairman is the second accused in the municipal bribery case. The chairman did not respond to the media's query whether he had instructed the school authorities to bribe the Asst. engineer. He said that there is no response in that regard as the anticipatory bail application is pending before the court. 'After contesting as an independent candidate and winning, I was approached by the LDF with the promise of the chairmanship. Therefore, there is no need to resign as per the proposal of CPM or LDF,' Saneesh said.
If the LDF moves forward with actions like no-confidence motion, further steps will be considered. The chairman said that he will have to reveal certain things if such a scenario occurs. It was also said that there were limitations to take action against the engineer. He also mentioned that he will return to the municipal council after the 13th, when the charge of the vice-chairperson ends.
