Hotel employee dies after suffering severe burns in gas cylinder explosion in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: A Malappuram resident, who was undergoing treatment for severe burns following a gas cylinder explosion at Muthalakulam, has succumbed to his injuries. The demised Abdul Muthalib Kuthabdeen (43) was an employee of Divine Hotel, owned by Mathara native Jamsheer, where the explosion took place at around 6.30 am on Friday.

Following a fire at the hotel, a gas cylinder exploded, thereby adding to the impact. Due to the explosion, the glass of a shop on the second floor of the building opposite to this hotel was shattered. The hotel was completely gutted in the fire. Abdul Muthalib Kuthabdeen suffered serious burns in the incident.

Two employees were making snacks after the hotel opened in the morning. They noticed the fire after lighting the gas stove was lit for cooking. Seeing the fire spreading from the gas, a migrant worker knocked out the cylinder and ran away. Then the cylinder exploded with a loud noise.

At 6.47, the fire force reached the spot and extinguished the fire. Eight gas cylinders in the shop were taken away. The fire was extinguished before it spread to nearby shops, averting a major disaster. As it was early morning, there were less people on the road. Police and forensic experts reached the spot and conducted an investigation.
