12 new services in Kochi; KMRL's new move minding rise in passenger traffic

KOCHI: With the number of passengers using the Kochi metro on the rise, KMRL announced new services from the 15th of this month.

The aim is to reduce passenger congestion and waiting time between trains during peak hours. More than 12 trips will be made in a day. The new schedules will be implemented from 8 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 7 pm. Trains will run at seven-minute intervals during these hours.

Meanwhile, the second phase of construction of the Kochi Metro from Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to Kakkanad Infopark has also started. Rs 1957.05 crores have been spent on the construction work. Afcons Infrastructure is undertaking the construction work. The contract amount is Rs 1141.32 crore.

The target is to complete the construction within 20 months.
