THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a first, the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport will use robots, instead of humans, to remove waste from airport canals. This is the first time in India that an airport is procuring robots for such tasks. Talks have begun with a Technopark-headquartered company called Gen Robotics.

A new robot suitable for use at the airport will be manufactured for this purpose. The robot will made according to the demand of the airport. The makers are trying to hand over the robot to the airport authorities within 60 days. However, the value of the contract and the number of robots are unclear.

Earlier there was a discussion to buy a robot to clean the canals that carry garbage at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. But the Adani Group came to a final decision in this regard after noticing the services of Gen Robotics robots that were at the forefront of the rescue operation in the accident at Amayizhanchan Canal recently.
