THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As a result of the formation of a new low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a possibility of heavy rain in Kerala for the next five days. In two days, the low pressure is predicted to intensify and move in a north-westerly direction and reach the Odisha coast. The cyclonic circulation is currently situated in the northeastern Arabian Sea. The low-pressure area is located from north Kerala coast to south Gujarat coast. Along with this, westerly and northwesterly winds continue to be strong along the Kerala coast. Due to this, the rains are likely to get intense in Kerala.
A red alert has been announced today in Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod due to heavy rains. An orange alert has also been given in Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts are on yellow alert today.

Strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of 55 kmph are likely along Kerala - Lakshadweep coasts along with bad weather conditions. Therefore, the IMD has advised to avoid fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. There is also a possibility of high waves and rough seas along Kannur and Kasaragod coasts.
