India tastes disappointment on first day of Olympics; fails to qualify for finals in 10m air rifle mixed event

PARIS: Disappointment for India on the first day of the Olympics. India failed to make it to the final round in the 10m air rifle shooting mixed event. Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan, Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal contested for India. Both teams failed to advance from the qualifying round.
The duo of Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan came 12th and Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal came 6th. Only the top four will advance to the final round. Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal scored 628.7 points and Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan scored 626.3 points.
India's Balraj Panwar finished fourth in the rowing men's singles sculls heats. With that, the player advanced to the repechage round. The top three finishers in the heats advance to the quarterfinals. Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Cheema are competing in the men's 10m air pistol category and Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan in the women's category. This is the category in which India is putting high hopes.

Sarabjot Singh has won gold in the Munich World Cup and bronze in the 2023 Asian Shooting Championship. Arjun is a member of the team that won gold in the Hangzhou Asian Games. Manu Bhaker, the former world number one, wants to overcome the difficulties and make a comeback. Rhythm Sangwan, currently world number three, has won silver in the 2022 World Championships.
