Wayanad tragedy: Three more bodies washed ashore in Chaliyar River

WAYANAD: The bodies of three more people, who went missing in the landslides that struck Meppadi Mundakkai and Chooralmala, were found floating in the Chaliyar River. The bodies were found at Pazhaya Thonikadavu near Pothukal Angadi. 60 bodies have been found in Pothukal so far. A search will be conducted here today also.

Bodies with missing body parts were found kilometers away from the landslide site. The bodies were found in areas such as Iruttukuthi, Pothukal, Panangayam and Bhoodanam. The Chaliyar River has been overflowing for the past two days due to heavy rains. The locals said that not only lifeless human bodies but also the remains of houses, gas cylinders and vessels were floating.


Meantime, the rescue mission is progressing for the second day of the landslide. 150 rescue workers have reached Mundakkai in four groups. The rescue workers have requested to deliver drinking water urgently. If the weather conditions are favourable, the Air Force helicopter will also be brought in for rescue operations. The death of 151 people has been confirmed in the disaster so far. 91 people could not be found. The postmortem of 143 bodies has been completed so far. 48 people have been identified. 191 people are presently under treatment. The postmortem of 31 dead bodies was done in Nilambur.
