We have often seen a large number of students commenting on the Facebook pages of the Collectors of each district asking for leave during the rainy season. Most of these students demand holidays saying that they want to play football in the rain and are unable to go to school due to waterlogging.
A Facebook post shared by Idukki District Collector V Vigneshwari yesterday regarding the announcement of holidays is now going viral on social media. The Collector began the post by saying 'Tomorrow (Wednesday) would be a holiday for all educational institutions in the district.' She stated that there is no point in students shouting on her Facebook page demanding holidays and that she cannot simply announce holidays just because she is the District Collector. Vigneshwari also explained the guidelines that must be considered for granting a holiday.
Facebook post
'Children...Due to the strong winds and heavy rains, tomorrow (21 July) will be a holiday for all educational institutions in the district. Please read library books or books from the syllabus without disturbing your family members...don't waste your time. And one more thing, I cannot declare a holiday just because I am a Collector... I should receive reports from Taluks and the police. After that, a holiday can be declared only after considering the IMD report, rainfall measurement, history of past incidents, cumulative rainfall accrued so far, windspeed etc. What I'm saying is that there is no point in shouting in FB for holiday.'
