KOCHI: Aster DM Healthcare has extended a helping hand to the people of Wayanad who are reeling under the worst landslide disaster Kerala has ever seen. Apart from providing emergency treatment to those injured in the disaster, a relief fund of Rs 4 crore has also been announced. Of this, one and a half crore rupees will be directly given to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
In addition, two and a half crore rupees will be spent on the rehabilitation of those who have lost their homes in the camps. Many victims of the disaster are being treated at Dr Moopen's Medical College (formerly DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences). The chairman of the hospital and managing director of Aster DM Healthcare said that treatment and other medical assistance will be free for all of them. Elder Azad said.
As soon as they heard the news of the landslide on Tuesday morning, doctors, nurses and staff of Moopen's Medical College were ready to face the emergency. So far 173 people have been admitted. 62 of them are still under treatment. 7 people are in intensive care unit. 20 people underwent emergency surgery. The activities of Moopen's Medical College are also coordinated in full cooperation with the government systems.
The number of beds in the wards has been increased and additional nurses have been appointed. As per the request of the district administration, forensic surgeons were also appointed from Moopen's Medical College. The rapid availability of more medical equipment for emergency treatment by the government has been very helpful.
Medical teams from various Aster hospitals in Kerala such as Aster Medicity and Aster MIMS reached the disaster-hit area on Tuesday morning. A team of Aster Volunteers is also active in rescue operations at Chooralmala and near Mundakkai.
They are accompanied by a medical unit that travels for emergency medical assistance. The team is also distributing essentials including drinking water and food in the area. Aster Volunteers are cooperating with the rescue operations conducted by the National Disaster Response Force.
In the meantime, information has also come out that some Aster employees are missing. Efforts are being made to find them as soon as possible and bring them back safely to their homes. Aster DM Healthcare has stated that it will provide all necessary support and assistance to the affected Aster employees and their families.
Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare Dr Azad Moopen expressed his gratitude to the state government for giving the Aster team an opportunity to be a part of the rescue operation at this difficult time. He assured that all means would be sought to help the disaster-affected people.
