NILAMBUR: 67 bodies and 121 body parts of people killed in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad have been retrieved from various locations along the Chaliyar River in Malappuram. 188 in total. The bodies of 35 men, 27 women, three boys and two girls were recovered.
The bodies were found during the four-day search conducted by police, forest, fire force, NDRF, locals and volunteers. Five dead bodies and 10 body parts were found on Friday. Post-mortem of 180 dead bodies and remains have been completed so far. 149 bodies were taken to Wayanad. Relatives received three bodies.
On Friday, the dead bodies were recovered from Chungathara, Kaipini, Ezhumampadam, Kuttamkulam, Ambitanpotty and Munderi Vaniyampuzha parts of the Chaliyar river. Combined forces conducted a search in Soochippara, a border area of Wayanad and Malappuram districts in a Navy chopper. A police chopper was also used for the search. No bodies were found in the search conducted by the forces in Soochipara.
Drone inspections were also conducted in Vaniyampuzha and Kumbalapara areas. The dead bodies found on Friday were shifted to Nilambur district hospital. In the afternoon, Agriculture Minister P Prasad reached Iruttukuthi and assessed the rescue operations. The search will continue today.
