airgun-shooting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The woman doctor who shot NHM PRO Shini at her home under the pretext of delivering a courier confessed to the crime but questioned the police, asking, "How did you know that I was the accused?" CI Shanif, who visited the doctor's room at a private hospital in Kollam, waited for an hour while she tried to deny the crime. The police informed her they had substantial evidence and only needed to know her motive for the shooting.

The doctor became visibly nervous when the police warned that if she didn't confess, more officers would arrive at the hospital, making the incident known to all doctors and patients. After an hour and a half, she finally admitted the truth. She detailed her relationship with Shini's husband, Sujith and the emotional distress caused by his neglect. She explained that she had planned the shooting for a year using an air gun, intending only to convey her suffering and hardship to Sujith, not to kill Shini.

The immediate trigger for the shooting was Sujith's severe neglect during their trip to the Maldives a month and a half ago. The doctor requested to call her husband, who works at ESI Medical College, Paripally, and attend the police station with him but CI Shanif denied this request.

A well-prepared plan

The doctor wanted to know how the police identified her despite her meticulous planning. She had closed all loopholes after the shooting, including creating a fake number plate in Ernakulam a year ago and reporting to work after committing the crime. She became anxious when she saw on TV that the police had tracked her car to Attingal. Despite her advance preparations and rehearsing her alibi, she was caught off guard by the police's quick response.

The air gun used in the shooting is reportedly in the quarters at Paripally Medical College, which the police have sealed. They warned that any attempt to destroy evidence would result in additional charges. Evidence will be collected after the doctor is taken into custody on Monday.
