THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaking at a program organized by the World Malayali Council, Ashwathi Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bayi expressed deep concern over the increasing trend of clearing hill slopes for construction in Kerala. She emphasized the irreversible damage this practice inflicts on the environment, warning that if nature retaliates, no human being would be spared.
"It has become a common practice in Kerala to clear the slopes of hills and construct buildings," Lakshmi Bayi remarked. "Everyone must remember that if nature strikes back, no human being is safe.”
She urged people to rethink their perception of human dominance over nature. "People think that we are the most powerful. We must understand that disturbing nature jeopardizes our existence. When you look up, it may seem like we have everything but looking down reveals the struggles of others," she stated.
Lakshmi Bayi called for a more considerate approach to development, urging people to avoid punishing nature through reckless construction practices. "Even if no one can be saved, don't punish them," she concluded.
