Low-pressure trough as threat; warning of heavy rainfall in Kerala, alert announced

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Meteorological Department has warned that there will be rain in the coming hours in various districts of Kerala. Idukki, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are likely to experience moderate rain with thundershowers at isolated places and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph speed during the next three hours. According to IMD, light rain is also possible at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.

According to the National Center for Oceanography and Research, there is a possibility of high waves of 1.9 to 2.4 meters in height and Kallakadal (swell surge waves) phenomenon along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow. IMD has stated that there will be no disruption to fishing in the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts.

A weak low-pressure area is located from the north Kerala coast to the south Gujarat coast. As a result of this, there is a possibility of moderate rain with widespread thunder and lightning over Kerala for the next five days. IMD informs that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places today and has announced a yellow alert in Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
