KALPETTA: The rehabilitation of the landslide victims in Mundakkai and Chooralmala will be implemented in three phases. The township for complete rehabilitation will come into reality in the third phase.

In the first phase, those living in the camps will be rehabilitated temporarily. Those who want to go to the houses of their relatives will be allowed to go. The government will bear the expense of others.

Chairpersons and secretaries of local bodies have been directed to identify vacant houses, quarters, flats and hostels. Government hotels, quarters etc. will also be used for temporary rehabilitation.

Many people have expressed willingness to provide their houses and quarters completely or partially without rent. Revenue Minister K Rajan said that the government will take over housing complexes, including flats, for rehabilitation of families after fixing a rent.

A temporary transit home system will be implemented in the second phase. Suitable places will be identified and freefab technology systems will be set up.

The services of 136 counsellors are available for those in the camps. An emergency meeting of the State-Level Banking Committee will be called under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to discuss issues related to loan repayments. The minister also said that private money transfer institutions should avoid collecting money from the affected people.
