Stunts in car during marriage celebrations; case against 18 in Kannur

KANNUR: A case has been registered against 18 youths for reckless driving during a marriage function. Kannur Chokli Police sub-inspector R S Ranju has registered a case against them. The license of six people who were driving the vehicle will be cancelled.


Those who accompanied the groom to the wedding by standing on the doors of the vehicles and sitting in the boot have been detained. They were identified with the help of a CCTV camera installed at Olavilam Mathiparambu. The arrest was registered after days-long investigation in the incident that happened on July 24.


The police have registered a case under various departments against M K Muhammad Shabin Shan (19) of Kariyad Puliayanambram Kunjiparambu, A Muhammad Nizar (19) of Alollathil, Muhammad Shafeen (19) of Mancheekara House in Meethal, Lihan Munir (20) of Pokharat, P Muhammad Razi (19) of Karyat Meethal and K K Muhammed Arshad of Kanyankandi, who drove the luxury cars.

The police informed that they had approached the Thalassery Judicial First Class Magistrate Court for the release of the vehicles taken into police custody, but the magistrate clarified that the pleas would not be considered until August 14. The police intensified search for the scooter passengers who were traveling without wearing helmets.

In another incident, the police also registered a case against Mohammad Adil (22) of Parambath House, Kuttyadi, the cameraman, and Irfan Habib (32), of Jas Villa, Chokli CP Road, who was driving the car, for traveling in the boot of the car for shooting the video of the wedding party.

This incident happened on August 4. The Chokli police started taking action by checking the CCTV cameras at various places after the Thalassery Assistant Superintendent of Police instructed to take strict action against dangerous driving in the face of increasing number of road accidents.
