KANNUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will land at the Kannur airport on Saturday at 11:30 am on an Air India One flight of the Air Force to visit the landslide hit areas of Wayanad. He will then undertake an aerial survey of the landslide affected areas in Wayanad. Union Minister Suresh Gopi will accompany him.
Governor Arif Muhammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan along with others will jointly receive the Prime Minister. The two will accompany the Prime Minister to Wayanad. Three Air Force copters reached Kannur yesterday for Modi. A bullet-proof car and safety gear were brought to Kannur in a special flight to go by road if necessary. Vehicles for SPG commandos, mobile jammers etc. were also delivered. A high-level meeting chaired by the collector was held at the airport to review the security arrangements.
Modi will reach the disaster area around 12.15 pm and will stay there for about three hours. He will visit the relief camps and the hospital where the injured are undergoing treatment. A high-level meeting will also be held later.
No search will be conducted for the missing today following the arrival of the Prime Minister. There are traffic restrictions in Wayanad following his visit. Heavy vehicles and cargo vehicles will not be allowed to pass through the Thamarasseri pass from 7 am to 3 pm.
The Prime Minister will return to Kannur airport at 3.40 pm by helicopter from Wayanad and will return to Delhi at 3.45 pm. The police are arranging heavy security at the airport and on the road.
