THRISSUR: Opposition Leader VD Satheesan said that the Centre should provide a special financial package to Wayanad, which was devastated by the recent landslides. Satheesan said that there is hope in this regard after the Prime Minister's visit.
"The authorities should ensure the rehabilitation of the people. They should also take necessary steps to ensure that so many lives are not lost in disasters that may happen in the future," Satheesan said while reacting to the Prime Minister's visit to the disaster-hit regions in Wayanad.
"A proper system should be arranged to give clear warning. It was the lack of a proper warning system that resulted in the disaster in Wayanad. Wayanad should be given special consideration. The opposition had raised the issue of climate change in the Assembly before the landslides in Wayanad. We will submit ideas for rehabilitation to the government. UDF will extend full cooperation in the matter. The decision to donate money to the relief fund was taken jointly by the Congress," Satheesan said.
