KALPATTA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Wayanad was a significant moment of relief for those affected by the recent disaster. Arriving two and a half hours later than originally scheduled, Modi, accompanied by the Chief Minister, Governor and Ministers, visited the disaster area, relief camps and hospitals, offering solace and support to the victims.

During a review meeting at the Collectorate, Modi assured that financial constraints would not impede the rehabilitation efforts in Wayanad. He expressed his commitment to providing the necessary resources and requested a detailed report on the losses and required interventions.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan presented a petition detailing the current figures and losses. Modi emphasized the need for comprehensive support, including both financial aid and mental health assistance, to help the affected communities recover.

MLA T Siddique, speaking to Kerala Kaumudi, expressed confidence in the Prime Minister's commitment and noted that the people of Wayanad were reassured by his visit. He confirmed that he had submitted the petition as an MLA.

The meeting featured footage depicting the extent of the disaster, with Modi reflecting on his own experience as a rescue worker during a 1979 disaster. He conveyed a deep understanding of the tragedy and the conditions of the deceased, survivors and those undergoing treatment.

Ministers K Rajan, P A Muhammad Riaz and A K Saseendran highlighted that Modi's direct assessment of the disaster, beyond just reviewing reports, instilled hope for Wayanad's recovery. Union Minister Suresh Gopi added that Modi assured all of Kerala's needs would be addressed and that a detailed report would follow based on his observations.
