22-year-old unwed woman delivers at home, hides baby on sunshade

ALAPPUZHA: Some crucial information has surfaced in the incident of burying a newborn baby at Thakazhi in the district. The baby’s mother is 22-two-year-old unwed woman. The baby was buried by her lover Thomas Joseph (24) of Thakazhi Viripala Randu Para along with his friend Ashok Joseph (23) of Thakazhi Kunnumma House in Alappuzha.

The woman is a native of Poochakkal in Alappuzha. She delivered the baby at home on August 7 early morning. She then hid the baby on the sunshade of the house. She later handed over the baby to her boyfriend.

The woman sought treatment in the hospital on August 8 for bleeding. When the doctor asked her what happened, she told him about the delivery. She lied to him saying that the baby has been abandoned at Ammathottil. She later spoke contradictorily. On being suspicious, the hospital authorities informed the police.

The woman is also in police custody. When questioned in detail, the woman told the investigating officers that it was her boyfriend who said to bury the baby. Her boyfriend and his friend were arrested during an investigation conducted. The place where the baby was buried will be checked. If the body is received, further steps including post-mortem will be conducted.
