NEW DELHI: Hockey India has retired the number 16 jersey of Malayalee PR Sreejesh, the legendary goalkeeper and former captain of the Indian hockey team who retired with the Paris Olympics. The number 16 jersey will not be given to anyone in the Indian men's hockey team. The decision was made considering the contributions made by Sreejesh to the country, including his major role in winning the country two Olympic bronze medals in his 18-year-long career.
Sreejesh was given a farewell in Delhi by Hockey India. Several former and current players of the Indian men's hockey team and Sreejesh's family members were present at the event. Sreejesh's teammates came wearing Sreejesh's number 16 jersey in the event called PR Sreejesh - The God of Indian Hockey.
