THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is alleged that the state government postponed the grand reception that was to be given in Thiruvananthapuram to PR Sreejesh, the legendary hockey player and the only Malayali to have won two Olympic medals, due to the interference of the sports department. According to reports, a dispute between the ministers is behind the shift of the reception function
General Education Department itself took the initiative to prepare a reception for Sreejesh since he is the Joint Director at the General Education Department. Flex boards were installed all over the city of Thiruvananthapuram. However, the Sports Minister complained that he was not informed about this reception program. It is reported that the minister expressed his displeasure to the Chief Minister. It is also learned that the coaches and players of the Sports Council have been instructed not to participate in the event. Following this, it was decided to postpone the reception. Preparations for the reception were made by the General Education Department in collaboration with the State Olympics Association.
Sreejesh had reached Thiruvananthapuram today to participate in the event. As the program has been postponed, Sreejesh may return home tomorrow.
