KOCHI: Olympian P R Sreejesh came to the fore criticizing the Kerala Hockey Association. Sreejesh's performance was crucial in India after he won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics hockey. Sreejesh announced his retirement after his brilliant performance in Paris Olympics.
The government had decided to accord a grand reception to Sreejesh after he returned from Paris. The government later postponed the function. This sparked a major controversy. After this, Sreejesh came forward criticizing the hockey association. He added that the stadium named after him has been stalled for years.
'Starting astro turf in Kerala is an impossible task. Those in the association should try for hockey. I cannot do it alone. It's not because Sreejesh didn't come, Astro Turf didn't come for so long. No one tried for it. I am always ready to be with you, but don't say that it is Sreejesh's lone responsibility', he clarified.
Sreejesh said the postponement of government’s reception should not be made a controversy. He clarified that the minister has directly said that the function will be hosted soon. The government had announced a cash reward of Rs 2 crore for goalkeeper Sreejesh. A decision regarding this was taken in the cabinet meet. The government's move was to host the reception in a grand manner.
