Country celebrates Raksha Bandhan; school children tie rakhi to Modi; Rahul and Priyanka with pictures

NEW DELHI: Rakshabandhan, which celebrates the warmth of brotherhood, was celebrated in a grand manner in the country. School girls from different parts of the country tied Rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The celebration was held at the Prime Minister's official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

A group of 30 students from Jharkhand tied rakhis to Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Various programs were organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Women who got Indian citizenship through the Citizenship Amendment Act tied Rakhi to Union Minister Piyush Goyal. They are those who have sought asylum in the country from Pakistan.

Army personnel also celebrated Raksha Bandhan at the border. At the Wagah border, women and children tied rakhis to BSF jawans and gave them sweets.

Rahul Gandhi wrote on X that it is a festival of unbreakable love and affection between brother and sister. Rahul wished 'May this thread of protection always keep your sacred relationship strong,' and shared a picture with his sister Priyanka Gandhi. Priyanka shared pictures with Rahul and father Rajiv Gandhi. Priyanka also noted that brothers and sisters are companions in struggle, companions of memories and also boatmen of companionship.

Sudha Murthy posted on X that 'Raksha Bandhan has a rich history. When Rani Karnavati was in danger, she sent a thread to King Humayun as a symbol of sibling-hood, asking for his help. This is where the tradition of the thread began and it continues to this day." Sudhamurthy's tweet on X invited a huge outcry. Many people responded that it was a fake story, and some people came in favour.
