Raksha Bandhan: Vrindavan widows with special rakhis for Prime Minister Modi

NEW DELHI: The country will observe Raksha Bandhan today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive special Rakhis from Mathura's Vrindavan this time. The rakhis with images of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna and Modi were designed under the auspices of Maa Sarada Ashram by the widows staying there. 551 rakhis were prepared in this way. A 30-member student group from Jharkhand will be tying Rakhi to Modi today. The team will also visit President Droupadi Murmu.

Qamar Sheikh who is known as Narendra Modi's Pakistani rakhi sister is coming with self-stitched rakhi for the 30th year. Born and brought up in Karachi, Qamar Sheikh came to Ahmedabad in 1981 after getting married. She has been tying Rakhi to Modi since 1990. The tradition was interrupted only during Covid.

Raksha Bandhan is a day to celebrate the glory of brotherhood and brotherly love. Lord Krishna's finger was unexpectedly injured by Sudarshana Chakra. Seeing this, Draupadi tore the cloth from the sari she was wearing and wrapped it around Lord Krishna's finger to stop the flow of blood. Lord Krishna promised to save Draupadi from any danger after this. This is one of the legends behind the Rakhi celebration. Mahabharata also says that Lord Krishna became the saviour when the Kauravas tried to insult Draupadi by stripping her. The celebration started in North India yesterday itself.
