Sisters gangraped after Raksha Bandhan festival; 10 arrested

RAIPUR: In a gruesome incident of rape, ten people including the son of a BJP leader were arrested in Raipur. The incident happened when the two girls who are also sisters traveled to a friend's house after celebrating Rakshabandhan. The sisters were ambushed by a gang and were assaulted in the most brutal way.

The incident took place on Thursday night at Mandir Hasaud in Raipur. Amidst the molestation, three people robbed the mobile phones and money from the girls. The sisters were 19 and 16 years of age. A total of seven people came by bike and took the sisters to an isolated place where the crime happened.

The police said that the accused left the girls on the roadside and escaped. The sisters then went to the nearest station and reported the incident. The arrested Poonam Thakur is the son of a local BJP leader. There are five cases against him in Arang station.

Thakur's father, Lakshmi Narayan Singh Thakur, is the vice-president of BJP in Mandir Hasaud. His son Poonam Thakur is now accused of rape and murder.
