NEW DELHI: A CRPF inspector was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Udhampur in Jammu Kashmir. The deceased is CRPF inspector Kuldeep Singh of the 187th Battalion. The joint forces were conducting a patrol in the Dudu area of Basantgarh when the terrorists opened fire at around 3.30 pm yesterday.
The joint forces retaliated strongly, forcing the terrorists to flee. Search operations are ongoing.
Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have been scheduled in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The objective of the Pakistan-backed terrorists is to instil fear among the populace and sabotage the electoral process. The terrorists are also targeting the generally peaceful Jammu region. Apart from the Army and Border Security Force, over 70 battalions of Central forces are deployed in Jammu and Kashmir to maintain law and order. This year, 12 security personnel have been killed in encounters.
