THRISSUR: Non-Keralite woman gives birth at Thrissur railway station. Railway Police and Railway Contract Staff made immediate arrangements for the delivery. Jasna Begum (25), a native of Assam, who arrived at Thrissur railway station, gave birth to a baby girl on the platform near the overbridge at the Thrissur railway station at around 10:30 yesterday morning. The pregnant woman was found lying with a boy near the escalator on the first platform.
The railway police and cleaning staff of the station came running and called an ambulance to take the woman to the hospital. The woman gave birth while they were trying to transfer her to the hospital. She said that they were leaving for Secunderabad.
ASI Ajithakumari of Thrissur Railway Police Station. RPF SI Geethukrishnan, Reshma, Arthana and staff of the Child Welfare Department provided primary delivery care to the woman. The facilities necessary for the delivery were prepared under the leadership of railway police personnel Manoj, Jayakumar, Saji and Sriraj. She was taken to Thrissur General Hospital in an ambulance. Hospital officials said both mother and baby are fine. The woman's husband is Sultan Ibrahim who is doing various jobs in Malappuram. The family has been informed. The woman has only a two-year-old child with her.
Suhrabi's second time in pregnancy situation
WADAKKANCHERY: Compassionate service of cleaner Suhrabi (60) by taking on the role of doula for the second time at Thrissur railway station. Suhrabi is the one who worked as a doula for the delivery of Jasna Begam (25) from Assam. In 2017, when a native of Ernakulam gave birth on a train, Suhrabi, who was called by officials, entered the compartment and worked as a doula. This time the birth was on the platform. Both times, Suhrabi took a baby girl in her arms.
Suhrabi reached the spot along with CRPF personnel and station staff when pregnant Jasna Begam was found lying near the escalator. While trying to transfer Jasna to the hospital, she gave birth. Suhrabi then cut the woman's umbilical cord, washed the child and handed it over to the officials.
Suhrabi is the wife of Kabir, a native of Wadakkanchery. She is the mother of three daughters. They live in a rented house behind St. Francis Xavier's Forona Church in Wadakkanchery. She sold the three cents of land and the house that she had for her children's marriage. Suhrabi's husband Kabir is bedridden. They live on the meagre income as a contract employee in the railways. After work, Suhrabi does coconut picking and sewing. Suhrabi is waiting for a house from the government's Life Mission.
