NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that strict action will be taken against those who commit crimes against women. The Prime Minister's response comes amid massive protests in the country regarding the rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata.

"Women's safety is very important. I say once again to all state governments that crimes against women are unforgivable. Whoever the culprits are, don't let them escape," Modi said. He was speaking at the Lakhpati Didi conference in Maharashtra. Modi also said that laws are being strengthened to ensure strict punishment for those who commit crimes against women.

He added that the existing laws would be amended and justice would be ensured for the victims. A number of amendments have been introduced in the Indian Code of Law. If a woman does not want to go to the police station, she can file an FIR online (e-FIR). The Prime Minister also said that no one can change or correct the e-FIR.

The Central Government will stand firm with the State Governments to prevent crimes against women. He said that the government has done many activities for the sisters and daughters of the country.
