NEW DELHI: George Kurian, BJP leader from Kerala and Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Minority Affairs has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
George Kurien thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to become a Rajya Sabha member. He said that it will act as a chain between Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. Madhya Pradesh's assistance of Rs 20 crore to landslide-hit Wayanad is a testament to the bond between the two states. On behalf of the people of Kerala, he thanked Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for the financial assistance. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state BJP president VD Sharma and others congratulated Kurien.
George Kurian was declared elected as no one else submitted nominations. One of the 11 Rajya Sabha seats was vacant after Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was elected to Parliament from the Guna Lok Sabha constituency in the 2024 general elections. George Kurian has now been elected to this seat unopposed.
