NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek special financial assistance of 2000 crores for the rehabilitation of Wayanad. The meeting was held at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, the official residence of the Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister handed over a detailed petition. This is in addition to the earlier submission. The meeting started at 11 am and lasted for half an hour. Modi had made it clear that money would not be a hindrance for rehabilitation when he visited the disaster-affected area on August 10.
The revenue and agriculture departments had estimated a loss of 1200 crores in the first days of the disaster. Later, including the report of eight departments, a report detailing the loss of Rs 2000 crore was prepared. This is what was submitted today.
Pictures of the meeting, including the presentation of the statue of Sri Padmanabhaswamy in 'Anantha Shayana' posture to the Prime Minister, were shared on the Prime Minister's X account.
