KANNUR: It was with shock that many watched the CCTV visuals of a scooterist getting run over by a bus while crossing the road. The accident took place in Kannur Koothuparamba. The CCTV footage showed the scooterist carelessly entering the road, only to be rammed over by a private bus. Netizens exchanged views and blamed the scooterist for his carelessness while the bus driver was held responsible by some for the speed used on such a narrow road. And now, the motor vehicle department has analyzed the accident to come up with an answer.

The Motor Vehicle Department wrote on Facebook that the scooter should have stopped before entering the main road to ensure that the road was safe. The note asked the vehicles running on the main road to practice extreme caution if spot vehicles waiting to enter the road from the sides. Priority should be given to vehicles coming from the main road.

Such accidents are born because of wrongly guessing the speed of vehicles passing through main roads. Vehicles waiting to enter the main roads would see no danger as the vehicle fleeting through road appears to be far behind. This is a common hoax that has led to many deadly accidents. It would also be wise to use indicators or hand signals, to pass a message to other riders on the main road.
