35 injured in strange six-vehicle crash in Koothattukulam

KOOTHATTUKULAM: As many as 35 passengers were injured after vehicles clashed one after the other in a strange accident in Koothattukulam on Monday. Six vehicles collided near V Cinemas in Koothattukulam at 3.30 pm on Monday.

The vehicles going from Koothatkulam to Muvattupuzha route were involved in the accident. A CBM company’s tipper lorry first crashed into the rear of a Tempo Traveler belonging to Palakkad Nenmara Corporate Society.

The closely tailing vehicles lost control over the sudden crash and next came a KSRTC swift bus that rammed into the tipper lorry. Four people, including the bus driver, were seriously injured. Around 20 passengers with face injuries after getting smashed with iron bars inside the bus were taken to Koothattukulam Devamata Hospital in various vehicles.

At the same time, a car hit the back of the bus. Bobina Varghese, a car passenger from Pampady was seriously injured. Locals rushed to the spot and alarmed the fire force and police about the accident. Fire and Rescue Assistant Station Officer J. Rajendran Nair led the rescue operation. Traffic was blocked for several hours. A crane was brought and the vehicles were replaced to restore road traffic.
