Received message claiming daughter was under custody of Delhi police; attempt to extort money by threatening Aluva MLA's family

KOCHI: A cyber fraud gang attempted to extort money from the family of Aluva MLA Anwar Sadath by threatening them. The gang threatened the family by sending them a fake message claiming that the MLA's daughter had been taken into custody by the Delhi Police. The incident occurred on Thursday morning. The message claimed that the MLA's daughter was nabbed by the Delhi Police for possessing drugs. The Ernakulam Cyber Police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint lodged by Anwar Sadath MLA.

Meanwhile, police have nabbed another person who extorted money from people by claiming that their relatives were under virtual arrest. Prince, a native of Delhi, was arrested by the Kochi Central Police. He is being questioned in detail. The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by a Kochi native. The accused had extorted Rs 30 lakh from the complainant.
